6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Bands

The band program at Taylor begins in the 6th grade. Students travel through the 8th grade in a program that develops them as young musicians. Through the years, students develop their music theory, tone quality, musicianship, technical abilities, and other aspects in a succinct order. Students in 7th and 8th grade participate in Music in the Parks at Kings Island in the spring. Many students join the after school marching band or color guard in the 8th grade on an audition basis.

Three Rivers Community Band

Special Groups

Solo and Ensemble Contest
Students in the THS Band Program perform at OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest. A student may perform a solo or make an ensemble (saxophone quartet, percussion ensemble, etc.) and perform for a judge that is a specialist on that instrument. The student will receive critique and a rating from that judge. Students will gain more independent knowledge of their instrument and learn how to prepare a piece in a different setting. Students from Taylor have consistently received high ratings at Solo and Ensemble Contest.

Cincinnati Youth Jazz Orchestra
The Cincinnati Youth Jazz Orchestra offers a high-level challenge in a big band setting. Emphasis will be placed on developing professional musical, improvisational and performance skills. CYJO performs a wide array of styles within the big band genre, with performances held on- and off-campus. Any students playing an instrument within standard big band instrumentation, as well as vocalists, are encouraged to audition for this group.

Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble
The Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble is a skill-enhancing and enriching experience that supplements but does not replace students’ experience in their own high school bands. CYWE rehearses once a week and time is divided between full rehearsals, small group sectionals, and chamber ensembles. Attendance is expected at all rehearsals and concerts.
